I've picked up a blue fade and a green fade Protec. Along with a Sure-loc sight (on one) and a Toxonics target sight, (on the other). My blue Protec has a "split string setup" the green has the standard rig. I've added scopes to both sights with a 2X lens.

The bow above shots incredibly smooth, I really enjoyed it - so much that it made me spend over 1500.00 on archery equipment in the past month. To get ready for the upcoming leagues. I will hate to see it go, but it's more suited for hunting and 3D target practice for hunting.

We have been shooting only since June of 2001. This has been limited experience with targets in the backyard. We have friends that target shoot that invited us to shoot indoors at their club in Muskegon Michigan. It was great fun, a really nice club setup, but a bit far for us to travel each time to shoot, so last week we did some indoor shooting at the local dealer.  The other people shooting there was really helpful and friendly. I think we're going to enjoy this sport even more as we meet more people who are also into it.

A shot of my Blue and Green Protec's, case, Carbon Express arrows and Toxonics and Sure-loc sights. (scopes not pictured)

Here is a close up of one of the sights which is designed for target shooting. It would be rather cumbersome for hunting, but for target shooting it allows for very fine up, down, left and right adjustments so I can fine tune the sight while shooting. A 2X mangication scope is partially hidden on the other side.

When I first started shooting, I put the bag target out in the yard at a distance of 20 yards. We were happy to just "hit the bag". Since getting a bit of experience, help from people on the internet and local friends that also shoot (thanks Gary and Carol!) we started hitting the bag regularly. Next my goal was  to keep all arrows in the circles. (not hit the white) I said, I'd be really content If I could just do that... well now I usually do that...  so now I find myself saying...  Now I'd like to get them all in the gold. (are we ever happy?) = )

I found a used Genesis 5 star stabilizer for sale in the archery classifieds. It just arrived. I really like it, but it has added a strange side-to-side wobble which is initiated by drawing back the string. It does fade, but as my muscles get tired it does return. It almost seems as if it needs some stabilizer on the opposite side of the riser as well. Either that, or the stabilizer may be to long? This is the 36". I've read that the 30" in popular too. I could cut it down fairly easily. But once cut there is no going back to 36".  So what to do?

10/17/01....   SUCCESS! - I tried the Genesis stabilizer on my blue ProTec. Not sure why there was a major difference using it on this bow, but it was great. (This bow has a higher draw weight then the Green one that had the wobble problem with the stabilizer. I attached it to the Blue Protec and shot today and I was thrilled with the accuracy increase. I shot several rounds of 10 arrows and I was floored! Here's a sample...

10/17/01  UPDATE   SUCCESS!
To the right is one of my two scopes. Both had 2X lens in them. I'd like to find a 3-4X to zoom in a little more on the target.

Wow! a really tight group at 20 yards. Compare the target to the left to the one above without the stabilizer! My sight seemed to be off a little, so a slight adjustment was needed...

Then I shot the group on the left... Still slightly off but getting there! I'm really thrilled with how the stabilizer allows me to stay locked on target.

My son Kolby, 14.

His form... he's the one that introduced me to archery. He gets me into all my hobbies. (he got me into Sport kiting as well). He's using a Browning Jr. bow. I just installed a target sight to it tonight. (not pictured in photos)  that will allow him to fine tune his sight for more accuracy.

Kolby shooting his 5 arrows.

Kole took some pictures of me shooting. The bag target is 20 yards out.

My form is a little different from his because I use a hand held "Carter Insatiable" release. While he uses a wrist type caliper release.

I got a stiff neck shooting today which is unusual and several people have emailed commenting that my head it tipped to much. I checked my bow and found my peep sight had crept down about 5-6 inches! I moved it back up and marked the string so I can see if it moves in the future!

Friends Gary and Carol invited us to join them at their club. (we're probably going to join too).
The club has a wonderful field range with targets from 10 though 80 yards. We spent a little time aligning our sights for the different distances. Then went out on the target course? (I think it's called) and shot the 14 targets presented there. The course is much like a golf course. With different targets at various locations. You walk from target to target and shoot 4 arrows at each. The shortest is about 8 yards the longest is 80 yards.

Kolby waiting for his turn at the first target. He's setup with a Browning Jr bow and Sure Loc sight with 2X scope.

Kole nails the 60 yard target here with his 4 arrows.
We have a little problem with his configuration. His sight can't go low enough to sight in for long distances. (the scope is in the way of his arrow) today he shot the nylon screw head off the bottom of the scope!

We could raise his peep sight which would allow us to raise his sight... but he already seems to be stretching a little to see it?

Kolby takes a couple pictures of me with my ProTec set at 46#, Toxonics sight and G&B scope with 2X lens. I also have a Genesis 5 star stab mounted. (36")

Another angle, I'm using a "Carter Insatiable" release.

Gary, gets ready for the 80 yard target. He's using a Hoyt Sport bow, with upgraded Command cams. He designed and built his own target sight.

Gary's wife Carol at the 80 yard target. She's shooting a Hoyt Banshee.

I should probably say that she beat us all on the field course today!

I attribute part of that to those little binoculars she has! The right tools for the job!

With them she can view her shot and adjust accordingly.   In my case, I shot my first arrow and couldn't see where it hit most of the time. So I didn't know how to adjust my sight. I got home and ordered a tiny set of binoculars on ebay ;-)

Gary helps Kolby setup his new sight on the range

Shot today - Nov 7th, switched to the cube target because the bag is getting pretty beat up and arrows are starting to pass through.

I then shot the cube and was happy to see that 9 out of 10 shots were all in the black circles (shot all at 20 yards).

I shot 10 again all at the same spot this time and got 9 out of 10 once again. This is a picture. (the one that was out of the black spot, hit other arrows and may have been deflected a bit to the white. I'm pretty happy with my improvement.

I ordered a 3rd target sight/Scope with 4X lens. To arrive soon. Will post about it when it comes. It's a Chek-it sight. I hope to mount it on Kole's bow so I can reclaim my SureLoc sight.

When ever we get back home, we're always sorry we didn't take more photos. But we're having so much fun shooting that we don't stop to think about using the camera!
